baithive's features.

Pheramone Included.

Each bait hive will arrive with a pheramone wipe included. The wipe is used to aid in attracting swarms .

Foam and Pop Out Floor.

The hive has a foam insulated front and back. The thickness of the foam and tunneled entrance is designed to imitate a tree hollow. The hive has a pop out base - revealing a varroa mesh floor. When used in hot climates, it is advised the base is left fully or partially open to aid ventilation. The mesh floor is also useful if you plan to keep a new swarm in the bait hive for an extended period before re-housing.

Bungees & Buckles

The nylon weave straps and plastic buckles can be loosened and used to fasten the hive in location. However, to aid in fixing the hive at height it also arrives with two hooked bungee straps. Hanging the hive under a branch, in dappled shade is advisable.

Landing Pad

The hives are designed to be hung at height (where you have a greater chance of catching a swarm). In general - I have found bees find the presence of a landing pad preferable to the absence of one.

Rotating Doorway

A queen excluder, ventilation setting, closed and open setting. Upon catching a swarm it is useful to isolate the queen to ensure the swarm stays with the box.

Capacity

The hive has space for six national super, or deep frames. It is useful to leave an old used frame inside the hive. An old frame serves as evidence of a previous colony in the bait hive - making it more attractive to a passing swarm.

Bait Hive is a new hive, designed specifically to attract swarms of bees. It is used by beekeepers either to catch new swarms, or as a form of protection to reclaim any of their own colonies that happen to abscond.  Sign Up to our mailing list on the home page to receive updates, and exclusive discounts.
